|A five-run bottom of the eighth put the Yankees on the precipice of an enormous comeback win over the Red Sox.
And then Aroldis Chapman did just about everything in his power to undo it, but the Yankees held on for a 5-4 victory.
The closer walked the bases loaded to start the ninth before he got Andrew Authentic Joe Thornton Womens Jersey Benintendi to hit a sacrifice fly to left — and then Aaron Hicks threw out Eduardo Nunez at third, as the former Yankee inexplicably tried to advance on the play.
Chapman then got Mitch Moreland — who replaced Hanley Ramirez defensively at first in the seventh — to fly out to center to finish the game.

Then the Yankees’ slumbering offense finally woke up in the bottom of the eighth to overcome a 3-0 deficit and they won the series opener against their division rivals.
In front of a sellout crowd of 46,509, the first six batters reached in the eighth, including Todd Frazier, who gave the Yankees their first lead with an RBI single to left off Joe Kelly.
Before Frazier’s heroics, the Yankees tormented former Met Addison Reed.
In danger of being blanked for a second straight game, the Yankees erupted in the eighth. Pinch-hitter Brett Gardner started it by getting hit with a pitch to lead off the inning.
Hicks followed with a two-run homer off that just reached the short porch in right and got the Yankees within a run.
Gary Sanchez delivered a single to left and Aaron Judge walked, forcing Boston manager John Farrell to go to Kelly, the hard-throwing right-hander, to face Didi Gregorius, who tied the game with a single to left-center that scored Sanchez from second.
Frazier then dropped his single in front of Benintendi in left to put the Yankees ahead.
With one out, Jacoby Ellsbury singled to right to load the bases for Arian Foster Authentic Jersey Ronald Torreyes, whose sacrifice fly gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead.
The sudden burst of offense came out of nowhere for the Yankees, who got just two hits in six innings off lefty starter Eduardo Rodriguez.
Jaime Garcia, in his second outing since being acquired from Minnesota before the trade deadline, gave up three runs in 5 ²/₃ innings.
Adam Warren (3-2) tossed 2 ¹/₃ scoreless innings in relief of Garcia and Chapman picked up the save.
“They are bigger,” manager Joe Girardi said of the games against Boston. “We’re chasing the Red Sox and we need to make up ground to win our division.”
The Yankees still have a long way to go, but gave themselves a boost on Friday with two games remaining in the series.

A line-drive homer into the second deck in right by Benintendi gave Boston a 3-0 lead with two outs in the fifth. But Garcia survived a double by Ramirez and a walk to Young thanks to a Xander Bogaerts flyout to right.
